Extended workflow: user-specific task distribution

Background

In a typical workflow template, roles are defined that must be assigned to specific people when a project is created. These people then form the project team and are responsible, for example, for tasks such as the evaluation when a publication is made or the evaluation when a critical patent is granted.

Advantages of user-specific task distribution

With the extended workflow, it is now possible to permanently assign certain roles - such as that of the patent department or team leader - while other roles, in particular technical experts, can be filled flexibly and on a topic-specific basis. Depending on the subject area, a suitable expert can be appointed who then remains permanently responsible for all further tasks in connection with this patent family.

In contrast to the review process, in which individual tasks such as the evaluation of a patent can be temporarily passed on to other experts, the extended workflow variant transfers the entire role responsibility to another person. This person is then not only responsible for a single evaluation, but also takes on all future tasks for the patent in question - e.g. even if a patent is granted at a later date.

A task can be assigned by the team leader, for example. They can decide whether to take on the task themselves or delegate it to one or more team members. Once assigned, an expert remains responsible for this patent throughout the course of the project.
